The spreadsheet that outgrew itself

Microsoft 365 automation for Irish businesses: a focused app or flow that fixes one real operational headache, often on licences you already pay for.

The problem this solves

Small and mid-sized businesses often have a process held together with spreadsheets, email chains, or manual re-entry. Approvals, requests, tracking, reporting: things that have outgrown “good enough” but don’t remotely justify hiring a full-time developer or buying enterprise software. Most agencies either can’t build this kind of focused tool, or want to sell a much bigger platform than the business actually needs.

What the work covers

Power Platform covers a lot more ground than most businesses realise, and the right answer is often much lighter, and cheaper, than they expect. Rather than starting from a list of tools, these are the problems that actually bring people here.

“We’re tracking this in a spreadsheet and it’s falling apart.”

Usually the most cost-effective answer: a proper, simple system built on your existing Microsoft 365 setup, without buying new software. Often far more capable than businesses assume, and consistently underrated as an option.

“We need something to actually do the job, not just track it.”

A small, purpose-built app for one specific process. Approvals, requests, tracking, internal dashboards, built to fit exactly what you need with nothing extra bolted on.

“We’re doing the same manual steps over and over.”

Automating the repetitive parts: notifications, routing, approvals, and moving information between systems that don’t currently talk to each other, so people spend less time on copy-paste admin.

Here is one of those, running. An expense claim entering an approval chain: a rule decides when finance gets involved, and every decision does something visible. Sample data, nothing saved, no sign-up.

“It needs to look and feel like proper software, not an internal tool.”

When appearance and experience genuinely matter, whether client-facing or team-facing, a polished modern front end goes on top of the same low-cost foundation underneath.

“We’ve outgrown the lighter tools.”

For businesses with real structured data, relationships, and business rules to manage: a proper platform build, scoped to what’s actually needed rather than an oversized default.

“We have the data, we just can’t see what it’s telling us.”

Turning scattered information into a dashboard or report that answers the actual question you’re asking, not a generic export dump.

For the technically curious: this covers SharePoint lists, Canvas Apps, Power Automate, SPFx/React front ends, Dynamics 365 model-driven apps, and Power BI, named here once, quietly, for anyone who wants the specifics.

How it works

  1. Start with the problem. Describe the process that is not working. Expect questions until it is properly understood, rather than a jump to whichever tool you had in mind.
  2. A clear proposal, scoped to the real problem and priced plainly. That includes an honest view on which of the six above your problem actually needs, including when the answer is “the cheapest option here is genuinely enough.”
  3. Build, with visibility. Check-ins at agreed points, and working previews where possible.
  4. Handover, and an option to stay supported. Documentation included and written so your team can actually use and maintain it, rather than depending on whoever built it. Ongoing support offered, never assumed.

When the spreadsheet is the problem

Another one, running. A job tracker with every fault a real one accumulates, and the same information once it has types and rules. The second version is a SharePoint list, which costs nothing extra on a licence you already hold.

And what running it actually looks like

Fire a request and follow it. A condition, a branch, a notification and a write back. On the full version you can change the threshold, take the other branch, and make the last step fail to see what happens then.

When the same fact lives in two places

Clients, projects, invoices and tickets, linked. The full version flattens the same data into a spreadsheet and asks you to rename a client in each. One edit against ten cells is the entire argument.

And when the data is already there

An export that answers nothing, then the same rows answering something. Pick a question and watch it resolve. The full version has all three questions, a month range, and cross-filtering.
