An honest read on whether you need AI

AI consultancy for small businesses in Ireland. An honest read on whether you need AI at all, and if you do, how much of it and where to start.

The problem this solves

There’s a lot of noise and very little honest guidance. Some businesses are being sold agentic AI platforms when a simple automation would do. Others are avoiding AI entirely because they don’t understand the actual cost or risk. Almost nobody is explaining this in plain terms, starting from the business’s actual process rather than a tool.

How the work runs

  1. Discovery. Understand your actual business process before any tool is mentioned.
  2. Data readiness. What data you have, where it lives, and whether it’s actually usable by an AI system yet. Often the real blocker, and rarely explained honestly.
  3. Options mapping. Workflow automation vs. AI-assisted vs. agentic AI, laid out as a genuine cost, risk and complexity spectrum, not “AI or nothing.”
  4. Cost modelling. What it will actually cost to run: token and usage pricing, per-seat SaaS fees, and the hidden costs that catch people out later.
  5. Implementation and handover. Built properly, documented, and handed over so you are not dependent on an outside party indefinitely.

What will not happen

  • Being sold agentic AI when a €50/month automation solves the same problem.
  • A tool being recommended before your process is understood.
  • Being left with a system nobody on your team can explain or maintain.

Work out where you actually stand

Six questions, running here. It checks the foundations before the opportunity, and two of its three possible answers do not involve AI at all. Nothing is saved and nothing is sent.
